Fertility Acupuncture in Wokingham: What to Expect at Our Clinic
Fertility Acupuncture in Wokingham: What to Expect at Our Clinic
If you’re trying to conceive, preparing for IVF or currently going through fertility treatment, you may have come across fertility acupuncture and wondered whether it could be right for you.
Perhaps you’ve never had acupuncture before. Maybe it has been recommended by your fertility clinic or a friend. Or perhaps you’ve simply reached the point where you’d like some additional support during what can be an overwhelming journey.
At The Natural Fertility Clinic in Wokingham, fertility is at the heart of what we do.
Our aim isn’t simply to provide an acupuncture treatment. We want you to have somewhere you can talk openly about what is happening, ask questions and feel supported throughout your fertility journey.

What is fertility acupuncture?
Fertility acupuncture is acupuncture used alongside your fertility journey and tailored to you as an individual.
People come to us at many different stages.
You might be:
- Trying to conceive naturally
- Preparing for IVF, ICSI or IUI
- Already going through an IVF cycle
- Living with PCOS or endometriosis
- Experiencing irregular or difficult menstrual cycles
- Looking for support following an unsuccessful fertility treatment
- Trying for a second or subsequent baby
- Looking for male fertility support
- Simply unsure about your fertility and wondering where to begin
One of the most important things to understand is that there isn’t a single “fertility acupuncture treatment” that we give to everyone.
Your appointments are individual to you and take into account your fertility history, menstrual cycle, current treatment and how you’re feeling both physically and emotionally.
Do I need to be having IVF to have fertility acupuncture?
Absolutely not.
We see many people who are trying to conceive naturally, as well as those undergoing assisted fertility treatment.
Some people come to us at the very beginning of their journey. Others find us after months or years of trying to conceive.
And some contact us when IVF is approaching and they suddenly feel they need some additional support.
There isn’t a “right” point at which you have to contact us.
If you’re unsure whether fertility acupuncture is appropriate for you, that’s exactly why we offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation.
What happens at your first fertility acupuncture appointment?
Your first appointment is longer than a standard follow-up because we want to understand your individual fertility journey.
We’ll discuss things such as your menstrual cycle, medical and fertility history, previous investigations, any fertility diagnosis you may have received and any treatment you are currently undergoing.
If you’re having IVF, we can also discuss where you are within your treatment cycle.
But fertility doesn’t exist in isolation.
We may also ask about your sleep, stress, digestion, energy levels, lifestyle and general wellbeing.
It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions.
We know that by the time some patients reach us they have had numerous appointments, investigations, blood tests and scans. Fertility treatment can sometimes feel like a whirlwind of results, terminology and decisions.
Having time to actually talk about your journey can be incredibly valuable.
What does acupuncture actually feel like?
This is probably one of the most common questions we hear from people who haven’t experienced acupuncture before.
Acupuncture needles are extremely fine.
You may feel a small sensation as a needle is inserted and sometimes a dull, heavy or tingling sensation around an acupuncture point, but treatment should not be painful.
Once the needles are in place, you simply lie back and relax.
Many of our patients actually tell us that their acupuncture appointment becomes a little pocket of calm in an otherwise very busy fertility journey.
Where are the acupuncture needles placed?
This depends entirely on your individual treatment.
Acupuncture points are located throughout the body, but commonly used areas can include the lower legs, feet, arms, hands, abdomen and head.
You remain appropriately covered and comfortable throughout your appointment.
If there is anything you’re uncomfortable with, simply tell your acupuncturist.
Fertility acupuncture when you’re having IVF
We also support patients undergoing IVF and other assisted fertility treatments.
Your acupuncture appointments can be adapted according to where you are within your fertility treatment, rather than following exactly the same approach at every appointment.
For example, someone preparing for treatment may have very different needs from someone who is currently undergoing ovarian stimulation or approaching embryo transfer.
Importantly, acupuncture is a complementary therapy.
It isn’t a replacement for fertility investigations, medical advice or treatment from your fertility clinic.
We believe strongly in working alongside conventional fertility care.
What about acupuncture around embryo transfer?
We regularly see patients around embryo transfer.
Because transfer dates can change at relatively short notice, we understand how important flexibility can be during this stage of IVF.
If you’re planning IVF and would like acupuncture as part of your support, it is helpful to contact us in advance so we can discuss your treatment plan and likely timings.
Fertility is about more than acupuncture
One of the things that makes The Natural Fertility Clinic different is that we’re not simply an acupuncture clinic.
Our team provides a range of fertility-focused services including fertility consultations, fertility massage, reflexology, hypnotherapy and emotional support, alongside guidance around nutrition, lifestyle, supplements and fertility test results where appropriate.
Sometimes acupuncture may be exactly what you’re looking for.
Sometimes, after talking everything through, another form of support may be more appropriate.
Our job is to help you work out what you need.
What if my partner needs support too?
Fertility is not solely a female issue.
We also welcome male partners who would like fertility support.
If there are concerns around sperm health or male fertility, we can discuss lifestyle factors, existing test results and whether further investigation or support may be appropriate.
You don’t both have to receive acupuncture either. Every treatment plan is individual.

Who will I see?

But equally important to us is how you feel when you walk through the door.
Fertility can be an incredibly emotional experience.
There may be excitement and hope, but there can also be disappointment, anxiety, frustration and a feeling that your life has suddenly become dominated by cycles, appointments and test results.
You don’t need to pretend you’re fine when you come to us.
I’m interested, but I’m not sure where to start
You don’t need to know which treatment you need before contacting us.
In fact, we’d rather you ask.
We offer a free 15-minute telephone fertility consultation where you can tell us a little about your journey, ask questions and find out what support may be appropriate for you.
There’s no obligation to book treatment afterwards.
Sometimes having a conversation with someone who understands the fertility world can simply help you work out your next step.
