IVF Acupuncture
Acupuncture for IVF, ICSI & IUI
Looking for IVF Acupuncture?
Specialist acupuncture support throughout your fertility treatment
Starting IVF or another form of assisted conception can bring a mixture of emotions — hope, excitement, uncertainty and sometimes a feeling that your life has suddenly become dominated by appointments, medication, scans and results.
At The Natural Fertility Clinic, we provide specialist fertility acupuncture for individuals and couples undergoing IVF, ICSI, IUI and frozen embryo transfer (FET).
Whether you’re preparing for your first cycle, already undergoing treatment or approaching embryo transfer, our experienced fertility acupuncturists provide personalised complementary support alongside the care you receive from your fertility clinic.
And with our dedicated weekly clinic at TFP Thames Valley Fertility in Maidenhead, accessing acupuncture alongside your fertility treatment is now even easier.

Acupuncture Alongside IVF
Many patients choose acupuncture as a complementary therapy during their IVF journey.
Every fertility journey — and every IVF protocol — is different, so we don’t use exactly the same treatment for every patient.
Your acupuncturist will take into account your fertility history, treatment protocol, medication, symptoms, general health and where you are within your IVF cycle.
Our role is not to replace the medical care provided by your fertility clinic, but to provide individualised complementary care and a supportive space throughout your treatment.
When Can I Start IVF Acupuncture?
You can start acupuncture at any stage of your fertility journey.
Some patients choose to begin in the weeks or months before starting IVF, while others first contact us once their treatment cycle is already underway.
There is no need to worry that you’ve “left it too late”.
If you have time before your IVF cycle begins, your appointments can provide an opportunity to consider your general health and wellbeing and establish a treatment routine before starting medication.
If treatment has already started, we’ll simply meet you where you are and tailor your acupuncture accordingly.
Before IVF – Preparing for Treatment
If you come to us before your IVF cycle begins, we’ll take time to understand the bigger picture.
This may include discussing:
- Your fertility and medical history
- Previous IVF or assisted conception treatment
- Your menstrual cycle
- Your upcoming IVF protocol
- Existing fertility investigations and results
- Nutrition and lifestyle
- Supplements
- Sleep and general wellbeing
- Stress and emotional wellbeing
- Male fertility and sperm health where relevant
Where appropriate, we may also recommend one of our more detailed Fertility Consultations, particularly if you would like help reviewing your fertility history, test results, lifestyle and possible next steps.
The aim isn’t to give you an overwhelming list of things you “must” do before IVF.
Instead, we want to help you feel informed, supported and prepared for the treatment ahead.
Acupuncture During Your IVF Cycle
Once your IVF cycle begins, your acupuncture can be adapted as your treatment progresses.
Appointments may be scheduled at different stages, including:
- During down-regulation, where applicable
- During ovarian stimulation
- In the lead-up to egg collection
- While preparing for embryo transfer
- Before embryo transfer
- After embryo transfer
- During the two-week wait
We’ll ask about your medication, scans and where you are within your protocol at each appointment so that your treatment can be adapted accordingly.
Your acupuncture appointment can also provide valuable time away from the clinical side of IVF — somewhere to rest, switch off and talk if you need to.
Pre & Post Embryo Transfer Acupuncture
We offer dedicated acupuncture appointments around embryo transfer.
Depending on your transfer time and location, you may choose acupuncture before your embryo transfer, afterwards, or both.
Before Embryo Transfer
A gentle acupuncture treatment before your transfer, providing time to relax and prepare for your appointment.
After Embryo Transfer
A supportive acupuncture treatment following your embryo transfer, allowing you some quiet time to rest and unwind afterwards.
Pre & Post Transfer Package
For patients who would like both, we offer a dedicated Pre & Post Embryo Transfer Acupuncture Package.
Because embryo-transfer timings can sometimes change at relatively short notice, please contact us as soon as you know your transfer date and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

During the Two-Week Wait
The period between embryo transfer and pregnancy test day can feel like one of the longest parts of fertility treatment.
After weeks of appointments, medication and monitoring, suddenly there can be very little to do except wait.
Some patients choose to have acupuncture during this period as a way of supporting their relaxation, sleep and emotional wellbeing.
It can also simply provide a calm, supportive space where you don’t have to pretend that the wait feels easy.
If Your IVF Cycle Is Successful
If you receive a positive pregnancy test, congratulations.
Some patients choose to continue acupuncture during early pregnancy and beyond.
Our pregnancy acupuncture service provides complementary support throughout different stages of pregnancy, including pregnancy sickness, general wellbeing, breech presentation and preparation for labour later in pregnancy.
Your acupuncturist can discuss whether you would like to continue treatment and how appointments can be adapted during pregnancy.
If Treatment Doesn’t Go to Plan
Unfortunately, not every fertility treatment cycle results in a pregnancy.
An unsuccessful cycle can be incredibly difficult, particularly after the physical and emotional investment involved in IVF.
If this happens, you are still welcome here.
You don’t have to immediately start thinking about another cycle or making decisions about what happens next.
If and when you feel ready, we can support you as you process what has happened and consider your next steps alongside your fertility team.
IVF Is About More Than the Treatment Protocol
One of the reasons we feel so passionately about fertility support is that IVF can sometimes become very medical very quickly.
There are medications, follicle measurements, hormone levels, embryo grades and dates to remember.
But behind all of those numbers is you.
Our approach is about supporting the person going through the treatment — not simply following an IVF acupuncture protocol.
We want you to have somewhere you feel listened to and supported throughout the process.
Supporting Both Partners
Fertility treatment isn’t solely about the person undergoing IVF.
Where appropriate, we can also support the male partner and discuss areas such as sperm health, lifestyle, nutrition, supplements and further investigations that may be worth discussing with your fertility specialist.
Acupuncture appointments are also available for male fertility support.
